Grandma to Sissy: YOUR mommy was MY little girl.

Pause.

Sissy to Grandma: MY daddy is MY little daddy.

Overheard at Dinner

Mom, in sing-song voice: Dinner's ready. Who wants drumsticks?

Kids: WE DO!

Mom: Sorry, you're too cute (points at Sissy) and you're too big (points at Bubba)!

Kids: MOM!

Dad: She's just kidding. You can have drumsticks.

---Later---

Bubba: Mom, why did you say that Sissy was too cute and I was too big to have drumsticks?

Mom: I thought it would be funny.

Pause.

Bubba: It WASN'T.

Bubba is FIVE!

I know everyone says this, but I can't believe Bubba is already FIVE! Here's a recap.

He's officially FIVE!

Bubba wanted a Blue Angel Fighter Jet cake - which also, by the way, needed to be egg, dairy & gluten free. Turns out Bubba is allergic to pumpkin, too!

When I told him I was sorry it didn't look very Blue Angel Fighter Jet-like, he said, "Oh, don't worry, Mom.  I think it looks JUST FINE." (Hubby told me I should tell people it was supposed to look like it crash landed.)

You've turned out to be a mighty fine encourager, Little Buddy.

We're proud to have you in our family and watch you grow. Super Bubba! We love you.

Overheard in the Bedroom

Sissy received several pairs of jammies from a friend of mine. Her daughter had outgrown them.

[Sissy retelling the story while putting on jammies for her nap.]

Sissy: Dat gurl give her jammies to me?

Sissy: 'Cuz dat gurl is too big for her jammies?

Mama: Yes, that's right.

Sissy (with arms outstretched, jumping on bed): BUT DAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY!

Pause.

Sissy, with feeling: Dat is a gwate gurl.

Overheard in the Hallway

Bubba roaming around with a tape measure.

Talking to himself as he measures things.

Bubba: Uh hmmm. Sissy is about 200 megabytes long.

Overheard in the Bedroom

Bubba: What do you want for your birthday, Sissy?

Sissy: I want a pink rocketship!

Bubba: Do you want a LEGO Star Wars TIE fighter?

Sissy: YES!

Bubba:  Okay, what else do you want?

Pause.

Sissy: I want two BRAS!

Overheard in the Car

Mama, singing The Twelve Days of Christmas...

Sissy: No Mama.

Pause.

Sissy: Free french hens, two cocoas and one pigeon. Okay?

They had failed to inform us of this new fact. They've always been pretty good vegetable eaters, but this was a new one. We had to take pictures...as the fad may not last more than this one meal.

Sissy: I need a bwake fum Bubba.

Overheard in the Kitchen

Bubba is showing Sissy how to do 'this little piggy' on her toes.

Bubba: This little piggy went to market.

This little piggy stayed at home.

This little piggy had roast beef.

This little piggy had none.

Pause.

Bubba: And this little piggy cooked ice cream and some eggs and melted some butter and they all had it for dinner!

Mom: Sissy, do you need a snack? Do you want some chips and salsa?

Sissy: Yes!

Mom: Do you want to try Mommy's homemade salsa?

Sissy: Yes!

Mom: Do you like it?

Sissy: I VERY WIKE IT!

Bubba is stirring the hot cocoa (homemade, with soymilk) on the stove after playing out in the snow.

Mom: I notice that you really like to cook things.

Bubba: Yah, when I grow up, I want to be a chef!

Mom: Wow, a chef? Will you cook me dinner sometimes?

Bubba: Sure.

Mom: And are you going to have a restaurant or just be a chef at home?

Bubba: I'm going to have a restaurant.

Mom: Cool! A restaurant - what kind? Mexican food? Italian?

Bubba: Well, I'm going to make rice from China. And noodles. And sweet and sour sauce on chicken.

Pause.

Bubba: And parsnips.

Pause.

Bubba: And oil on the parsnips.
