Bubba is stirring the hot cocoa (homemade, with soymilk) on the stove after playing out in the snow.
Mom: I notice that you really like to cook things.
Bubba: Yah, when I grow up, I want to be a chef!
Mom: Wow, a chef? Will you cook me dinner sometimes?
Bubba: Sure.
Mom: And are you going to have a restaurant or just be a chef at home?
Bubba: I'm going to have a restaurant.
Mom: Cool! A restaurant - what kind? Mexican food? Italian?
Bubba: Well, I'm going to make rice from China. And noodles. And sweet and sour sauce on chicken.
Pause.
Bubba: And parsnips.
Pause.
Bubba: And oil on the parsnips.

Hiking the Sandia Crest Trail

Bubba scouts out terrain at Trailhead

Last time Brian stood on this spot, he'd just gotten engaged to someone we all know and love. That was over 7 years ago. It took us that long to get up there again.

I know I'm biased, but honestly: Does it get much cuter?!
I'm just saying.

Boogers & Battle Wounds
Well, it wasn't quite a booger. Sissy had just finished lunch and still sitting in her chair when she started mining for gold.
Sissy: "Get it, get it."
Dad: "Hey stop picking your nose."
She keeps going... hmmm Dad suspects something is in there.
Dad: "Bubba can you get your Sissy a tissue?" Bubba hands her a tissue, Dad gets her to blow real hard and out came...
...A RAISIN, sort of half chewed. She didn't have any raisins with lunch, but she did with breakfast. Not sure when she did that.
Minutes later Sissy attacks Bubba in the office with her teeth. Now Bubba has a battle wound on his side (little blood and little bruise), thanks to his little Sister who was trying to kick him off the chair in front of the computer. sigh...

Making Hinkelsteins!

Here we are making Hinkelsteins! Now that Mommy is on a kick to feed us good food (i.e. not so many processed crackers), we get to help make the snacks! Hinkelsteins are kind of like chewy granola bars...and she found the recipe in the More-with-Less Cookbook.
Flour (gluten free), oat flour, soy flour, flax, raisins, prunes, dates, honey, salt and milk. It makes a huge ball of dough that we get to taste (because there are no raw eggs in it) and pound down into the pans. It's fun. And we like to stick our fingers into it and make holes. It's okay, though. Mommy makes us wash our hands first.
[Sissy likes to eat the flour plain. Bubby mostly goes for the raisins.]

Overheard in the car
On the way home from eating out (at a fairly healthy place to eat).
Bubba: I don't want to go out to eat anymore.
Dad: Why is that?
Bubba: Because the food has too much fat in it.

Dad: Why is that?

Overheard in the car
Bubba: How many days does it take to fly to Texas?
Dad: Actually it only takes a few hours to fly, or drive. Depends on where you want to go. Why?
Bubba: I just want to go to Texas and play Ski-Ball.
Pause...
Bubba: Is there a Hinkle Family Fun Center in Texas?

Overheard in the Car whilst Bubba's being Buckled
Mama: I love you so much, Bubba, that I want to eat your nose for breakfast!
{Mama makes little fake chomping motions toward his nose.}
Mama: But I won't, 'cuz I know you need it.
Bubba: What do we need noses for?
Mama: Don't you know what your nose does?
Pause.
Bubba: It holds my boogers.

Report from Grandpa Tennis:
"When we were leaving your house this morning to go play tennis, Bubba wanted me to drive in reverse all the way to Los Altos so he could watch where we were going on the monitor in the Toyota Prius."

Overheard - all before 7 AM
If you hunt for a rabbit and shoot it, do you have to carry it by the ears?
Can you eat an ostrich?
Are all guns big and long and skinny?
Is Santa Fe over there [points]?
Is Bernalillo over there [points in another direction]?
Can we go downtown to ride the train?
What day is it?
